Ingredients - Serves 4
- ¾ cup split red lentils (masoor dal)
- 1 large (or 300 g) onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp plain flour
- ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
- 3 tbsp passata or 1 tbsp tomato puree
- ½ tbsp pul biber or red chilli flakes
- 1 cup milk
- ground black pepper
- Salt, to taste
Steps
- Heat the oil in large pot. Fry the onions till they are soft
- Add the flour and tomato puree (or passata). Mix well. The mixture will become thick almost instantly
- Cook while stirring until the oil starts to separate out
- Add the lentils, pul biber (or red chilli flakes), and water. Season with salt and ground black pepper
- Bring to a boil and then turn down the heat to simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the lentils are almost mushy
- Mix in the milk, let simmer for a few more minutes
- Blend, if you wish, and serve warm
